Research suggests that drinking hot water instead of cold water provides various benefits to our body. By drinking hot water, the toxic elements stored inside the body come out. By consuming hot water, our tridoshas Vata, Pitta and Kapha are also balanced and by keeping them balanced, we can avoid all diseases.

Rules For Drinking Hot/Lukewarm Water
- Never drink cold water. It should be warm/ lukewarm or as per body temperature. By drinking cold water, blood does not reach some parts of the body. After some time it causes weakness and many types of diseases like heart attack, kidney failure, brain hemorrhage etc. Drinking cold water mostly is the main cause of constipation. This causes the large intestine to shrink which leads to many complications. This also applies to other cold foods.
- After waking up in the morning, first of all, drink 2 glasses of lukewarm water (teenagers 1 glass). Your kidney will always be fine. Do not drink cold water by accident even after waking up in the morning. By doing this, you have full chances of getting a cold.
- If you exercise, drink 1 glass of warm water 15-20 minutes before exercise. By doing this the energy level will be higher.
- Drink 2 glasses of hot water after about 20 minutes of exercise. By doing this, the amount of water in the body will be maintained because due to sweating during exercise, there is a lack of water in the body.
- If you drink tea or coffee, then drink 1 glass of warm / lukewarm water 2–4 minutes before that, it will not cause acidity.
- Consumption of 1 glass of warm water before bath leads to high BP control.
- It is okay to drink 1 glass of warm/lukewarm water even if there is fatigue and tension. It relaxes the mind.
- Furthermore, it is okay to drink 1 glass of warm water even before sleeping. This prevents from heart attack.
- Water should be drunk before eating food, and it should be drunk at least 40 to 60 minutes before eating food.
- After eating 1 or 2 sips of warm or lukewarm water can be taken to clean the mouth and throat.
- Never drink water after a meal, if you drink water immediately after having a meal, it directly affects the digestive power of the body as well as the quality of food. Thus, Ayurveda does not advocate drinking water after meals. Drink warm/lukewarm water half an hour after having a meal is advisable.
- Do not drink water immediately before eating food. When you drink water before eating, it weakens the digestive power. Before we feel hungry, our body produces gas, which gives us a feeling of hunger. Water is a coolant, which dilutes the gastric juice, which is directly opposite to the digestive power of the body. Due to which there is problem in digesting food. Therefore, according to Ayurveda, you should drink water maximum one hour before eating food.

Precautions To Be Taken While Drinking Water
- One should never drink water while sweating, otherwise it becomes cold.
- Never drink water immediately after coming home from the sun. It can cause many diseases in the body which is dangerous.
- Never drink water on an empty stomach after morning, drink water only after eating something.
- Never drink cold water after eating food. If you are feeling the need of water a lot, then you can drink half or a cup of warm water.
- Never drink water immediately after eating fast food and dry fruits. Due to this there is a risk of cough and tightness in the throat. It would be beneficial to drink warm/lukewarm water only after about 40 minutes of eating them.
- Never drink water immediately after drinking juice and eating juicy fruits. It can be dangerous and can cause many diseases.
Method Of Preparing And Drinking Hot Water
- First of all, put the water to heat on high flame, now let it get very hot, boil the water so much that the water remains half.
- Such water is called Ushnedak in Ayurveda language. This water is absolutely pure.
- Now warm this water a little and drink it. Whenever you wake up in the morning, drink this water sip by sip.
